Do you want to learn how to program a Somfy motor for your retractable awning? Rest assured, it only takes a few simple steps to gain individual control over the preferred position and the proper direction of movement for this smart device.
Somfy motors operate roller shade motors, retractable awnings, rolling shutter motors, and screens. They are highly convenient for individuals with reduced mobility. They are also an excellent solution for those who enjoy having control over the level of sunlight in rooms near the awning. With the Somfy motor, you only need a few easy commands to roll or unroll your retractable awning.
However, for those who are less confident with intelligent devices, learning to use a wall switch or the Somfy remote control and settings might seem complicated. Our experts in awnings and patio accessories have prepared this handy guide to make programming the Somfy motor easier for you.
Here are the 5 steps for the initial programming of the Somfy motor for your custom retractable awning.
1. What is the first step in programming a Somfy motor?
If this is your first use, proceed to the next step. However, to change the existing programming of a Somfy motor head, the first step is to reset the concerned motor to factory default.
To do this, press the up and down buttons on the Telis or Situo remote simultaneously. During the reset process, your motor will make a sound. Don’t worry, this is completely normal. This noise indicates that the motor has been reset. You can now move on to the next step to program your Somfy motor.
Press the down arrow to unroll your retractable awning.
After resetting the motor, it’s time to program the Somfy motor memory. Start by pressing the down button on your remote. If your awning unrolls, continue unrolling it until it reaches the desired extension.
However, if it seems to retract when you press the down arrow, press and hold the “My” button until the motor makes two clicks. This noise indicates that the motor is reversing its movement. You should then be able to unroll your awning by pressing the down directional control button.
IMPORTANT! To protect its structure, we strongly recommend not extending the awning fully so that its fabric remains slightly loose. The arms of your retractable awning should not be completely open. Over-tensioning is one of the primary causes of material damage and wear on the Somfy motor.
2. Programming a Somfy motor: memorizing the maximum sequence
After unrolling your awning, it’s time to set the maximum extension limit (remote position). To do this, press the “My” button and the up arrow simultaneously. The motor will save this preferred position as the extension limit.
3. Press the up button
Next, roll up your awning by pressing this motor program button: up arrow. Let the motor retract it completely—it will stop automatically when fully retracted. Then, press the “My” button so the Somfy motor memorizes the favorite position. It will click twice to confirm the motor roll-out position.
4. Use the tip of a pen
On the back of your remote, you’ll find a small motor programming button. To access it, use the tip of a pen or a toothpick. Press this button firmly until the motor clicks twice another time. This indicates that your Somfy motor has been successfully programmed and is ready for use.
